On March 1, 2021, Joan shared her insights on the value of data analytics in our efforts to protect our community during this pandemic and beyond. A survey recently commissioned by the National Action Network had substantiated much of what we have experienced during these challenging times. Listen in below.

​Joan, who was recognized in 2019 by Black Enterprise magazine as one of the most Powerful Women in Corporate America and in 2017 as one of Women Enterprise magazine’s Top 100 Leaders in Corporate Supplier Diversity, served as general manager and vice president at Boeing South Carolina prior to her retirement last year. There, she held overall leadership responsibility for the company’s North Charleston facilities.

Prior to that, she served as vice president of Boeing’s Shared Services Group Supplier Management organization, where she oversaw $8+ billion of goods and services, as chief engineer for Boeing Global Services, and as vice president of Boeing’s Engineering, Modifications & Maintenance group: Boeing’s engineering leader. She has been credited for strengthening Boeing’s enterprise engineering expertise and encouraging a company-wide approach to meeting customer, business, and operational priorities with an emphasis on safety, quality, integrity, and worldwide support of customers. 

In addition to the above roles, Joan has served as director of Phantom Works Supplier Management for Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS), director of Small / Diverse Business & Strategic Alliances for BDS, director of Technical Workforce Excellence, and program manager of the Twinjet programs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

She has received extensive recognition for her work in science, technology, engineering, and math from global organizations, including the National Society of Black Engineers and members of Congress. She received the Women of Color Professional Achievement Award in 2015 from the Career Communications Group, and in 2012 was inducted into their Alumni Hall of Fame. 

​Joan holds a bachelor of science degree in engineering technology from California State Polytechnic University: Ponoma and a master of science degree in engineering management and business administration from the University of California: Riverside. She is an Associate Technical Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute.
